ONE LONGER WORKOUT IS THE WAY TO GO

Is exercising in short spurts throughout the day as beneficial as engaging in one longer workout? "No," say investigators at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Thirty women engaged in a different exercise regime each day for three days: 1) one 30-minute walk, 2) three 10-minute walks, spaced out during the day and 3) no walking. Engaging in one 30-minute walk burned 60 calories more than did three 10-minute walks. This difference equates to an additional 5 pounds of lost weight throughout the year, say researchers.
