MOMS WITH ASTHMA AT INCREASED RISK OF CAESAREAN

Women with asthma are at a heightened risk of adverse birth outcomes, according to a report in the current issue of The Lancet.

Investigators compared 2,193 mothers with asthma with 8,772 mothers without respiratory disease. Findings showed that maternal asthma upped the risk of cesarean delivery, preterm birth and low birth weight. In addition, mothers with asthma were at more than double the risk of preeclampsia, hypertension and chorioamnionitis, compared with mothers without asthma.
